Typically two losses in a season dooms any shot the Oklahoma Sooners have of putting together the type of season the program expects.

But despite two losses in a three-week span in late October and early November, the Sooners ended up winning the Big 12 Conference championship, downing Nebraska in the title game. As a result, Oklahoma earned a berth in the Fiesta Bowl on New Year’s night against Big East Conference champion Connecticut.

Two big offensive stars will grab the spotlight in the BCS bowl matchup. For Oklahoma, it’s quarterback Landry Jones who is the big attraction. Jones passed for 35 touchdowns and 4,289 yards, sparking a Sooners’ passing offense that ranks third in the nation at 351.7 yards per contest.

For Connecticut, running back Jordan Todman topped 1,000 yards for the second year in a row, rushing for 1,574 yards and 14 touchdowns. His 143.1 rushing yards per game ranks second in the nation.

The two schools have never met, and could not be more opposite in their bowl history. Oklahoma has one of the richest traditions in college football, while UConn has only played in the FBS since 2001. But the Sooners have lost their past four BCS bowl appearances.

Oklahoma football’s greatest showdown is happening in just a week, and it looks like the winner will be heading away with more than bragging rights.

The winner between No. 13 Oklahoma and No. 9 Oklahoma State will likely also be playing for the Big 12 South Title. The game to decide it, Bedlam, will be held at OSU’s Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 27.

Currently, OU is ranked higher than No. 17 Texas A&M in the most recent Bowl Championship Series Standings, which means that if OU wins, they should have the Big 12 South title. Ironically, if the Sooners come out on top after Bedlam, they would be in a three-way tie between them, the OSU Cowboys and Texas A&M. However, they would likely win the tiebreaker by securing the highest BCS ranking.

The showdown between the Sooners and the Cowboys is one that you won’t want to miss. Be sure to get your Oklahoma Sooners tickets for this year’s Bedlam showdown!

Completion after completion, pass after pass, Landry Jones carved up the Florida State defense in a matchup of ranked teams that turned into a blowout.

The Oklahoma Sooners quarterback was beyond sharp in Saturday’s meeting between the No. 10 Sooners and 17th-ranked FSU. Jones completed 14 consecutive passes at one point and finished 30-for-40 for 380 yards and four touchdowns, sparking a 47-17 rout of the Seminoles.

Ryan Broyles caught 12 passes for 125 yards and a touchdown, and DeMarco Murray rushed for two touchdowns as OU ran roughshod over FSU’s defense.

FSU quarterback Christian Ponder didn’t enjoy his outing nearly as much. The Heisman Trophy candidate looked anything but sharp, going 11-for-28 for just 113 yards and two interceptions.

OU plays host to Air Force Saturday.

To the surprise of no one, embattled Oklahoma guard Willie Warren has declared for the NBA Draft.

Seemingly a lottery-pick lock after a stellar freshman season, Warren struggled mightily both on and off the court this past year. He frequently clashed with head coach Jeff Capel, culminating in an early-season benching, and dealt with an ankle injury and illness as the season wore on. But his performance prior to those issues was disappointing to say the least, and as a result, his draft stock has plummeted. He’s no longer projected to be drafted in the first round, let alone the lottery.

Warren’s announcement is the second such one to come this offseason; guard Tommy Mason-Griffin shocked the university and draft scouts by dropping out of school and declaring, despite the fact that he could go undrafted altogether.

With Ray Willis leaving the school and stud freshman Tiny Gallon also possibly leaving after the NCAA opened an investigation regarding his receiving money from a financial adviser that could put his eligibility into question, this has been a tumultuous a year for Capel and the program.Once thought to be one of basketball’s fastest-rising stars, Capel must gain control of his team in a hurry.
